No one wants to have a massive hangover after a night of partying with friends. Even if we know that too much alcohol will result in a hangover, there are times that we cannot stop drinking all the cocktails, beers, liquors and wines that are being served to us, especially if all drinks are free. If you had too much alcohol, you may not even be able to reach the toilet to puke and in some cases you just sleep where you think it is comfortable. What Is A Hangover?        

A hangover is the experience of having different unpleasant psychological and physiological effects after consuming too much alcohol. Hangover symptoms  can involve feelings of severe discomfort within 24 hours or more. Symptoms can include severe headache, dry mouth, drowsiness, problems concentrating, sweating, fatigue, nausea, anxiety, slight dehydration and in some cases, hyper excitability. Although there are many possible remedies, there is no solid evidence that suggests that there are any solid hangover prevention techniques. The only sure thing to prevent a hangover is to not drink any alcoholic beverages, especially if your body can’t hold a certain amounts of alcohol. The reason that there is no solid cure for a hangover because every individual has different levels of alcohol tolerance. But based on the collective knowledge of people that have experienced many hangovers, below are a list of top hangover cures to try, just in case.

1. Hot And Sour Broth

In South East Asia, the best hangover cure is a hot bowl of hot and sour broth. The broth can be made with fresh tamarind or raw mango or any natural souring agents that can be cooked with either pork, beef or fish. Add some tomatoes, onions, green chilies and any green veggie of your choice, this is one sure way of treating your hangover. This sour broth can be eaten with rice. Carbohydrates tend to absorb alcohol and make your stomach less upset after a night of partying. In the Philippines, this sour broth is called “sinigang”.

2. Boiled Corned Beef, Cabbage And Potatoes

Corned beef chunks, potatoes and cabbage at lunch time will minimize the effects of a hangover. The hot broth from this dish will also help you sweat, which helps in eliminating alcohol from your body. The potatoes will absorb all the mistakes that you made the night before. 3. Drink Lots Of Water

Drinking water is the cheapest hangover cure. Water is a must. As you know alcohol can dehydrate the body with the frequent trips to the bathroom during your night of awesomeness and stupidity. Before going to bed, drink about 20 Oz of water. Water will replace the lost fluids and will help in eliminating the alcohol going around your system. If possible, everytime you get up needing to pee at night, drink a glass of water before going to bed. As soon as you wake up in the morning or whatever time the day after, drink at least 2 glasses of water. Do this all throughout the day and you will feel normal again before the day ends.

4. Berocca

The drinker’s best friend since it was introduced in the market. You can take Berroca and a big glass of water before going for an alcohol binge and the day after to minimize the effects of downing 8 shots of tequila in 2 minutes.

5. Coconut Water

Fresh or bottled coconut water is filled with natural electrolytes that help replenish lost fluids. A chilled coconut water also tastes much better.

6. Do Not Drink With An Empty Stomach          

Do not fool yourself that you are on a diet, but will slug down a case of beer with your sorority sisters. If you don’t want to hug the porcelain throne all night and the morning after, eat something greasy or load up on the carbs or anything that’s nice. While there is no food that can prevent you from puking, food can help in slowing down alcohol absorption. The longer it takes for the alcohol to reach the blood stream, the longer it takes to become intoxicated. Try to have some chips or nachos while drinking. It is also a good idea to have a burger after splurging on alcohol at your brother’ s birthday party.

7. Do Not Drink Coffee

Whoever through of this advice should be slapped in the face. Caffeine will make your headache worse. Some people may think that it works, but man, drinking black coffee with a massive hangover is like banging your head on a brick wall because you’re feeling dizzy. Coffee will also lead to more dehydration.

8. Soda?

Read above. Soda is just like coffee so skip it. If you don’t understand, you deserve a slap in the face…. with a whole salmon. Capice?

9. Bananas

Bananas are a good source of potassium and fructose. Bananas are also considered as natural antacids that help with nausea and acid reflux. It is also high in magnesium and helps relax the pounding blood vessels that cause hangover headaches. A banana is also good for upset stomachs especially if you had too much scotch, bourbon or any hard drinks.

10. A Hot Bath

Having a hot bath or a hot shower will help with sweating out the toxins collected the night before. The warm water can help you relax and ease the muscle pains that are results of repeatedly tumbling down the stairs or the gutters across the street. A hot bath can also help in erasing the facial graffiti that your buddies made when you were knocked out drunk on the sofa.
